    How this math works

GPA is a credit-weighted mean: points for a course are the letter’s scale value times its credits, and the term GPA is total points divided by total credits.

Points = scale value × credits
GPA = total points ÷ total credits

Unweighted 4.0 counts A+ and A as 4.0 and is the usual college GPA. Weighted adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB, capped at 5.0 per course. The 4.3 scale counts A+ as 4.3. Credits default to 3 when you pick a letter; rows with no letter, zero credits, or a P, NP, W or I are left out of both totals.

The weighted page explains the honors and AP bumps. Catalog starts from your school’s course list. Your registrar keeps the official record.

    Scale table

4.0 scale, unweighted. Honors adds 0.5 and AP or IB adds 1.0, capped at 5.0 per course.

    A worked example

    One term: Biology 101, B+, 4 credits. Honors Chemistry, A−, 3 credits. English Composition, A, 3 credits.

    36.3 points ÷ 10 credits = 3.63 on the unweighted 4.0 scale. On Weighted, Honors Chemistry scores (3.7 + 0.5) × 3 = 12.6 points, so the term is 37.8 ÷ 10 = 3.78.

    A target of 3.50 with 15 credits left needs (3.50 × 25 − 36.3) ÷ 15 = 3.41 on those credits. Add a prior GPA of 3.40 over 45 credits and the cumulative becomes 189.3 ÷ 55 = 3.44, so the same target needs (3.50 × 70 − 189.3) ÷ 15 = 3.71.

    FAQ

Why is my school’s number different?

Your school may differ: no plus/minus, A+ = 4.3, other honors bumps, or a cap on weighted GPA. Repeats, withdrawals and pass/fail follow local policy and are not applied here.

Do P, NP, W or I courses count?

No. Those letters leave the row out of both totals, credits included.

How is the target answer worked out?

Required average = (target × (earned credits + credits left) − earned points) ÷ credits left. Earned figures include prior GPA and prior credits plus this term’s rows.

    Which scale should I pick?

Most colleges report unweighted 4.0. Pick Weighted when your high school adds honors or AP points, and 4.3 when A+ is worth more than A.

    Are my grades saved?

In this browser only, so a refresh keeps the rows. Copy link puts the rows in a URL you choose to share. Nothing is sent to HALOX Co.
